Power Point in the classroom

10 Best Teaching Practices for this method

Why
1. They provide visuals, both text and images, to accompany a lecture.
2. If you make it a Power Point Show, there can be a vocal recording as an audio component as well
3. Extremely useful, explicit lesson for a substitute teacher
4. Absent students can be given the powerpoint file for a complete lesson
5. Students can print out slides to be supplements for note-taking.

How
6. Use animations to draw attention, but don't let them become the focus of a slide
7. Backgrounds can be used to group information (ie. all blue colored slides have a subject in common and all green colored slides have a different subject in common)
8. Utilize bullets and font size to create a framework for big ideas and sub-topics
9. Less than 25 words on a slide is most effective
10. If you are creating a Power Point Show, be sure to talk slowly and clearly and pause between slides
